February is Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution Month
District Governor's Corner
How time does fly!  A good way to gauge time is by seeing what “holiday” is displayed via cards, crafts and events.  That being said, we must be closing in on Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day AND the 2017 District Conference at the Avalon Inn and Resort.

With the end of January and the advent of February, District 6650 Rotary clubs are sponsoring a number of great events.  Please check out the calendar on the district website  http://rotarydistrict6650.org/ and attend a neighboring club’s function: Poland and North Canton’s Chili Open golf events; Poland’s A Night at the Races; Canfield’s Valentine dinner, a fund-raiser for a police dog; Steubenville’s Foundation Celebration; Warren’s Slice of the Valley; Plain Township’s dinner and auction; Massillon’s  Harlem Nights Gala; Canton’s “Unevent Raffle.   If your event is not listed on the website calendar, please encourage your officers to send the affair specifics to Lauri at the District office info@cantonrotary.org.

Registration for the District Conference is now available.  Go to http://rotarydistrict6650.org/ which will lead you to the link.  A great program that features, fun, fellowship and inspiration has been planned with you in mind.

No boring speeches, no long-winded presentations, no mind-numbing programs!  Just a fun and fast-moving day-and a-half where we enjoy each other’s company have some fun and learn something along the way.  All of this at a reasonable price.

Thank you for being a part of Rotary Serving Humanity!

Hugs!

Global Grants UPDATE – Water Project for Maharashtra, India: PDG Meena Patel has been visiting India and took some pictures of our OHOLI well site. This village is deprived of nearly-every natural resource required to meet and maintain basic standards of life. Every day, women spend half of their working hours collecting water over long distances and climbing lots of steps (more than 5 to 6 trips a day for their family). After age 35, the women are exhausted and unable to continue this work. This has led to cases of socially unfavorable family polygamy with the sole objective for someone to gather water. The well was recently dug and is being installed.

2017-2018 OUTBOUND EXCHANGE STUDENT CLASS SELECTED
In December, District 6650’s Youth Exchange Committee conducted interviews for all students who applied to be an Outbound exchange student in 2017-2018.  Many Rotarians, and a few non-Rotarians, volunteered their time to interview the applicants and the applicants’ parents.  Sixteen students were selected to participate in the program.  The following students began their training to be an Outbound exchange student at the Wooster overnighter in January:

Grace Aey – Canfield – Germany
Olivia Anderson – Orrville – Chile
Megan Belanger – Salem – Belgium
Joshua Bowen – North Canton – Germany
Molly Conser – Salem – Brazil
Emily Ellway – Youngstown – Argentina
Evan Gamble – Salem – Japan
Todd Gordon – Wooster – Argentina
Kelly Hamilton – Massillon – Switzerland
Maya King – Youngstown – Japan
Jonathon Lagaras – Champion – France
Adrianna Morgione – Canfield – Italy
Vidalia Porter – Strasburg – Spain
Luke Shephard – Louisville – Belgium
Alexander Thompson – Wooster – Belgium
Jacob Vogelgesang – Jackson Township - Chile

These students will complete four months of outbound training classes, at the monthly Inbound Exchange Student overnighters, and begin departing for their host countries in July and August.  All who participated in the interview process were impressed by the quality of the applicants. Also, the committee thanks everyone who gave up one or two Sunday mornings in December and assisted with the interview process.
