Volume 1 | Issue 8

March is Water and Sanitation Month
District Governor's Corner
Rotary is alive and vibrant in District 6650!

For a short month, February was certainly jam-packed with so many wonderful Rotary activities!
What a variety, from a fantastic YE Overnighter sponsored by Youngstown Rotary to a celebration of 100 years of Rotary in Massillon.  There were also a number of fundraisers: Canfield’s Valentine Dinner and Auction raised funds for a canine police officer while Warren’s “Slice of Warren” event raised money for Uganda acid victims.  Rounding out the month are Plain Township’s Dinner and Auction and Salem’s “Feed the Salem Community Pantry.”

Don’t forget to check the district calendar for March events.  You won’t go hungry attending pancake breakfasts in Orrville, Sugarcreek, Boardman and Warren and a spaghetti dinner in Howland.  Hope to see you there!

Be sure to save the dates of April 7th and 8th for an exciting and fun District Conference at the Avalon Inn and Resort.  You can register online and also send in registration forms to Lauri.  (Link to registration brochure)

In lieu of a meeting during the first week of April, clubs are asked to hold their meeting on Friday,  April 7th at the opening luncheon.  What a great opportunity to meet 6650 Rotarians!

The Golf Challenge Fundraiser for Clearview H.O.P.E. at Squaw Creek will have a shotgun start at 10:00 on Friday.  Only 32 teams will be accepted.  Encourage your friends to participate in this inaugural golf event .   (Link to the Golf Challenge brochure)

As always, thank you for all you do for your local and international community through Rotary.

Hugs,

Sieglinde

Support Our YEP Scholarship Fund and Help Us Get the Word Out About STEP
For Rotary Exchange year 2017-2018, District 6650 has 16 students currently preparing to participate in the Outbound Youth Exchange Program.  It has been our policy not to deny a student this wonderful opportunity merely because he or she cannot afford the costs associated with the program.  Even though Rotary’s exchange student program is one of the most affordable, the cost is significant, averaging approximately $7,000 per student.

In order to financially assist some of the students accepted into the program, the Youth Exchange Committee established a scholarship fund in 2014.  Thanks to the generosity of many clubs, and individual Rotarians, we were able to raise funds to assist our Outbound students in need.

We are again asking clubs and individual Rotarians to support the scholarship fund.  The scholarships have a significant impact on a student’s ability to participate in the program by removing some of the financial burdens associated with airfare, health insurance, and other fees.  All funds awarded are paid directly to the service providers after the prospective Outbound student successfully completes the training required to participate in the program.
