Rotary Foundation:  Local Grant Update

Vietnam Global Project Update:  Past District Governors (PDGs) Sieglinde and Larry Warren visited our project providing safe water, hygienic latrine and WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) training to the ethnic minority in Huong Nguyen commune, A Luoi, Vietnam.

Our $5000 in District Designated Funds (DDF) combined with three other districts including partner PDG Do Nguyen from District 6600 was matched by The Rotary Foundation by $32,000 and generated the $71,000 needed for this project.

New Vietnam Global Project: Our District, with Sieglinde’s assistance, is taking the lead in another project for the children in this area designed to introduce the concept of classroom-based library; to promote English learning; to train teachers, librarians, educators, and students how to best use of classroom-based library; and to use books effectively. This will involve 194 classes in 16 elementary schools with the total of 25 branches. There are 4027 elementary students in the Cam Lo District.

Cam Lo is one of the most disadvantaged districts in the province in terms of poverty. All communes in the district are accessible by road; however, the roads between the villages are still very poor. It commonly takes hours to walk from a commune center to a village.

Rotary Foundation:  Global Grant Update

As a reminder the District Rotary Foundation Committee has approved Global Grants for several international projects this year. We would like all clubs and individual members to consider supporting these projects. Donors will receive a tax-deductible receipt and donations count towards Paul Harris Fellow status.
