On Friday, December 2 at the Refuge of Hope's annual dinner and fundraiser, the Rotary Club of Plain Township donated $2,500 to support the organization's vision of "Being the Stark County standard for providing meals to the hungry, shelter to homeless men and hope to those living in dire circumstances."

 

Club members also serve hot meals at the Refuge of Hope campus on the fourth Friday of every month.

On the second Wednesday of every month from December through May, Plain Rotarians will pack backpacks for children in need at the Stark Hunger Task Force headquarters in downtown Canton.

 

Designed specifically to target childhood hunger, every month the Backpack for Kids Program supplies crucial weekend meals to over 2,200 school-aged children at five local elementary schools in three Stark County school districts. Students at risk of weekend hunger receive a bag of food from which they can easily assemble four healthy, non-perishable, and kid-friendly meals to sustain them over the weekend. Students are identified by their participation in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), through which they receive free and reduced lunches during the school week (Monday through Friday).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Due to the generosity of its members, the Rotary Club of Plain Township was able to adopt and provide gifts for 12 local families!  The names of these community members were provided to the club through the Community Christmas Giving Tree program at the Plain Township Administration Office.  Members Denise Evans and Jami Ellsworth and their families shopped, wrapped and delivered the presents to the Township office for distribution.
