DISTRICT GOVERNOR'S CORNER - OCTOBER 2021
Serving to change lives
Working side by side, we have accomplished much together the past two years for the greater good of our clubs, communities, nation, and world.  We have ensured that the good work continues to be the best it can be in moving our communities and world forward in a most competitive and challenging time.

I continue to be enthused and optimistic as we look forward and anticipate the success we will have in addressing the many challenges facing Rotary. I have full confidence that we are moving to a brighter future of growth and achievement.

I am deeply grateful for each of you for your commitment and hard work as a Rotarian, whether leading an avenue of service, committee, program, raising funds, or by providing support for the areas of focus Rotary addresses worldwide. WE greatly appreciate your generous commitment of time, talent, and treasure to Rotary International.  Every one of you has fulfilled an important role in serving our city government, businesses, and educational communities.  You have done all of this in an exceedingly difficult period of time for your respective clubs, particularly over the past 16 months of transitions and changes. As one, we have kept the promise and success of our movement to become better and stronger – thank you.

I greatly appreciate your continued service and your unwavering commitment to carry on with city and community programs and initiatives. Your hard work will help us through present day challenges brought on by the pandemic. As before, we will work alongside and support each other, and we will come through stronger and with the same mission “together we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change across the globe in our communities and in ourselves.” (Rotary International Mission Statement)

Stay safe and keep well.

One Day. One Focus:  Ending Polio

World Polio Day is October 24th
Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years. Our goal of ridding the world of this disease is closer than ever.
As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, we've reduced polio cases by 99.9 percent since our first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979.
Rotary members have contributed more than $2.1 billion and countless volunteer hours to protect nearly 3 billion children in 122 countries from this paralyzing disease. Rotary’s advocacy efforts have played a role in decisions by governments to contribute more than $10 billion to the effort.
Today, polio remains endemic only in Afghanistan and Pakistan. But it’s crucial to continue working to keep other countries polio-free. If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year.

D6650 and Vietnam partner on Global Grant
A special acknowledgment to PDG Sieglinde Warren of the Rotary Club of Canfield, who has been working for many months with a Rotary partner in Vietnam on a global grant.  The grant has been approved and will provide classroom-based libraries for elementary schools in the Gio Linh Tri Province in Vietnam.
The program will address social and economic disparities across the region.  It will also focus on providing contemporary education to children in remote areas, address a serious book shortage, introduce the concept of classroom-based libraries, and will provide students and teachers with English books to help them improve their English learning and language proficiency. 6,370 elementary school-aged children and 362 educators will be the beneficiaries!

November is RI Foundation Month
Our Rotary Foundation dollars are at work making meaningful change  Thank Sieglinde and fellow Rotarians across the globe.
UPCOMING:  Paul Harris Challenge and Foundation Month in November
  • District 6650 will continue with the PHF Challenge again this year. Stay tuned for details

  • The District will continue the “Double Your Donation” option, where Foundation Points can be given to another Rotarian. Last year this was very popular, and we saw 40% of the approximately 800 donors take advantage of this option.

  • Rotarians will receive specific information regarding their current donation status.  Many of our members do not know how much they have given, or how close to the PHF they are.  WE hope this information is an added incentive to grow our PHF membership.
