DISTRICT GOVERNOR CORNER
NOVEMBER 2022
Welcome to November! It’s hard to believe that we are already starting the fifth month of the Rotary year!

November is Foundation month. We will kick it off on November 6 with our “Night for Ukraine” event. Proceeds from this event will be split between The Rotary Foundation and directly supporting Rotarians on the ground in Ukraine. My heartfelt thanks to all Clubs and Rotarians who are supporting this event. It truly means a lot to me.

Please watch your mailboxes towards the end of the month for our district’s annual Rotary Foundation campaign. We are once again offering the Paul Harris Fellow challenge! For every $20 that you donate to The Rotary Foundation, you will be entered in a drawing for a chance to win a Paul Harris Fellow! My goal for the year is not only 100% participation from all Rotarians in the district, but a district goal of $200,000. When you donate to The Rotary Foundation’s Annual Fund, 50% comes back to our district to help us fund our club’s local projects. When you give to The Rotary Foundation, you are giving back to your own club.

While we are on the subject of The Rotary Foundation, did you know that you can sign up to have your donation automatically charged every month? It’s super easy to set up - just head over to rotary.org and click the donate button. Once you’ve signed in, you enter your info, click the amount you wish to donate, and you’re done! Just $10 a month will donate $120 to The Rotary Foundation - that’s less than 2 coffees at Starbucks! $85 a month will make you a Paul Harris Fellow in a year!

In other news, I have had a fabulous month visiting more clubs in our district! October saw me visiting Salem, Girard-Liberty, East Canton, Niles, Minerva, and Austintown. I also helped out at Dennison’s highly successful annual health check. I continue to be inspired and impressed with all that our clubs are doing for their communities and the entire world.

Now that I’ve almost finished up my “official” club visits, I am looking forward to being invited back for some of your events, socials, and other club projects. I’m ready to be put to work!

Have a wonderful month as we begin preparing for the holidays.

Yours in Rotary,
DG Michelle

The buzz about Operation Pollination continues to build. District 6650 Governor Michelle Charles and her immediate predecessor, Steve Wilder, agreed to sign Pollinator Resolutions on behalf of the entire district. In response, clubs are signing Pollinator Pledges and imagining how they can have influence.
Starting now, clubs also may use the district 6650 newsletters as a place to celebrate successes, share strategies, and inspire others to join the movement.
Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation added the environment as a seventh Area of Focus in June 2020. That effort was led by the Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group, which also supports Operation Pollination. The iconic monarch butterfly is an endangered species, a troubling sign as pesticide use, climate change and habitat loss also threaten bees, bats, beetles, and birds. Their struggles translate to declines in food crops and human health.
Operation Pollination may be a global initiative, but opportunities to engage in it are as close as your doorstep. No project is too small to be impactful.
When The Rotary Club of Cortland rededicated its Monarch Butterfly Garden on Sept. 20 at the Trumbull County Agriculture & Family Education Center, it demonstrated the power of commitment. Land for the ag center was donated by the Delphi Packard Company and developed by county commissioners to promote agriculture, education, gardening, and recreation. Rotarians serve on the building and grounds advisory committee. Ohio State University Extension and Trumbull Soil & Water Conservation District – two strong Operation Pollination partners – maintain offices there. Rotarians revitalized the butterfly garden with a grant from The Rotary Foundation and support from OSU Extension Master Gardeners.
The Rotary Club of Warren created a pollinator garden at the Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County. The Rotary Club of Struthers planted pollinator gardens within the CASTLO Industrial Park that borders the communities of Campbell, Struthers, and Lowellville.
As The Rotary Club of Youngstown plans its first installation, members (led by District Governor 2024-25 nominee Elayne Bozick) are building a coalition of public and private partners to broaden the reach of Operation Pollination. Partners include Mill Creek MetroParks, First Energy, Mahoning Soil & Water Conservation District, Mahoning County Land Bank, Youngstown CityScape, and Bending Oak Permaculture Farm.
Reforestation and Operation Pollination are complementary efforts. So is the Trex program of recycling filmy plastic. Creating, restoring, and enhancing natural habitats is their common goal.
If your club has a story to share, then please send information to District 6650 Secretary Joan Cauley at rotarydistrict6650@gmail.com. Please refer to Operation Pollination in the subject line of your submission.

BOARDMAN ROTARY
Thank you to all our wonderful sponsors for helping to make our 46th Annual Oktoberfest such a big success! We appreciate you!
All proceeds will go to benefit local and international charities.
This club, our rotary family, are a tremendous group of men and women, who care about our community, and work hard, to make it better for all. In the last few days, Boardman Rotarians transformed Boardman Park into an event that merged local businesses and restaurants, non-profit organizations, Boardman Schools and local service organizations. They worked with Boardman Police and Fire Depts, and the local Health Dept. They gave up time with their families to be in the park, volunteering, all weekend. Thank you all for your commitment to our club, our event, and our community. Roll Rotary!🤍
