Rotary Club of Dennison
Donation of House to Habitat for Humanity- In July Dennison Rotary donated a house to Habitat for Humanity of East Central Ohio. The house was purchased by the club to save it from demolition by the village. The house had been abandoned for many years and deteriorated to an unsafe condition. The club had to repair the foundation and basement as well as remove and replace all of the wood siding on the two story duplex house. The house was built in the late 1800's by the railroad for employees. It was one of 10 such houses built in this part of town. Additional work performed by the club included; partial replacing the roof, all new doors and windows and two new front porches and back porches. Also, complete demolition of the interior was completed this past June.The club voted unanimously to donate the house to Habitat after, now President Dale Burkholder, contacted them to see if this house would be of interest to them for their program of providing homes for families in need. Habitat will be able to provide housing for two families as a result of the donation of this duplex, by the Rotary Club of Dennison. The completion of the interior of this house will be performed by Habitat, the families receiving the housing and members of the Rotary. It is scheduled for this winter.
The work on the house performed so far was done during the Rotary Presidency of Rodney Sutton (2014/2015) and Randy Seiber (2015/2016).
Helicopter Pad Dedication-
On 7/26/16 the Rotary Club of Dennison conducted a ceremony to dedicate the Helicopter Pad at Trinity Hospital Twin Cities in Dennison, in the name of Ray Ross. This was to honor Ray who passed away in April of 2014. Ray is a past President of Dennison Rotary. While President, Ray choose as his project, the construction of the helipad in 1992. He completed the project at no cost to the club and hospital, as all materials and labor was donated. Ray's family, friends, employees of the hospital and Rotary members were in attendance. Prior to the ceremony family and Rotary had dinner together provided by the Rotary. Immediately following the ceremony, all in attendance were invited for cake, cookies and beverages provided by the club.
A mounted plaque is permanently placed at the entrance to the pad. The plaque honors Ray Ross for this accomplishment. It is estimated that over 500 helicopter flights have occurred transporting patients to other health care facilities for treatment necessary to save lives.
The dedication and ceremony was a result of Robert Michels thoughtfulness and planning. Bob gave a moving presentation during the ceremony. Bob is an active Rotarian and Past President. Bob was a close friend to Ray and served on the Uhrichsville police force with Ray who was Chief of Police. Also Rotarian and CEO of Trinity Hospital, Joe Mitchell gave a presentation concerning the value of the pad to the hospital and patients in need of life saving care.
Project-Shoe Boxes for the Children Living on the Dump in Nicaragua- The Rotary Club of Dennison participated in a Rotary project that provides needed items for the children in Nicaragua that live on a dump. The club purchased items consisting of clothing, personal hygiene, school supplies and appropriate fun items as spelled out in the project. The provided boxes were filled up with the required items, by the club, and then shipped to the collection point. All participating Rotary Clubs in Ohio ship to the same location. The boxes are shipped from there to Texas for shipping to Nicaragua. Volunteers will hand out the boxes to children in January 2017. The Dennison club provided boxes for males and females age 12 and 13. The boxes shipped from Dennison on 8/15/16.

This Years President's Project--
This years President of the Dennison Rotary, Dale Burkholder, has identified the club project. It is a two phase project with the first part being the purchasing of a camera security system for the Police Department of Dennison. The security system will be installed in McClusky Park in Dennison. The Police Department expressed the need due to safety concerns and minor vandalism in the park. The Chief of Police had already decided on the system needed but had concerns on funding for the system. This system will be purchased within the next 30 to 60 days.
The second part of the project will be the construction of a sheltered charcoal grilling area at McClusky Park. It will be located near the existing picnic shelters. There are no grills in the park for picnics at this time. The sheltered grill structure will be 16 feet by 10 feet, with a concrete floor. It will have double heavy duty grills permanently mounted at each end. Also there will be a secured 5 feet by 32 inch table in the middle between the grills on each end. The roof will be vented to prevent the build up of smoke. This will all be completed by Spring of 2017. The sheltered grill structure will be in sight of the camera security system.
Annual Dennison Rotary steak cookout--
The Rotary club of Dennison had its annual steak cook out on 8/9/16. Members and their spouses and/or friends met at Uhrichsville Public Park for the social gathering. Members grill their own steaks and baked potatoes, salad, bread and beverages are provided ready to eat and drink. Cake is served for desert. All attendees had a good time. The event was organized by Lynn Angelozzi, with help from Marti Wells, Jim Weaver and Dale Burkholder.
