DG Dan Morgan’s Message for November

As every Rotarian knows, November is Foundation month.  The November theme is designed to remind us of the importance of Rotarian’s support of our Foundation.  Worldwide Rotarian contributions go to the Foundation's Annual Programs Fund, which provides grants and awards through Foundation programs. It also funds the Permanent Fund, an endowment from which only the earnings are spent in support of Foundation programs, ensuring the long-term viability of the Foundation. Every dollar contributed by Rotarians funds humanitarian and educational programs and program operations. Clubs and districts apply for and receive Foundation grants to carry out worthy projects worldwide.  Your generous supports our focus in our 6 areas:

Disease and its prevention

Education and Literacy

Growing local economies

Mothers and Children

Peace and world Conflict

Water and Sanitation

Thank you for your amazing support of our common desire to help make our world a safer, happier and wealthier place to year.

Have fun with the wine Auction. Please remember to fill out the donation form and return it with your check to Lauri Coy at the Canton Office. We will proof read, tally and then process to the foundation.

This is a very special month for a second reason.  Thanksgiving will fall on November 28th.    What a special holiday.  This occasion causes us to pause and think about how blessed we are.   When we join Rotary, we join a very powerful Family.  Our Rotary Family accepts you for who you are.  They will cheer you on in the good times and support you through the bad times.  Our Rotary Family, working in unison, does change the world.  I am so grateful for each and everyone of you.  Every club is so special and impactful in the world, their communities and to each other.  Remember to the world you are one person, but to one person you may be the world.

LOCAL DISTRICT ROTARY FOUNDATION GRANTS:

October 24th is World Polio DayThe Club wine auction is on!  District leaders have donated monies, and sommelier PDG Phil Mariola has selected a very fine wine from Spain (rated above 90 points) for each Club to auction in the next few weeks.  If you have not picked-up or received your bottle, please contact Lauri at the Canton Office (info@cantonrotary.org). Last year we raised $15,000 for Polio.

Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 30 years. Our goal of ridding the world of this disease is closer than ever. As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, Rotary has reduced polio cases by 99.9 percent since our first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979. We've helped immunize more than 2.5 billion children in 122 countries and contributed more than $1.8 billion toward eradicating the disease worldwide. Today, polio remains endemic only in Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Pakistan.

November is Rotary Foundation Month – All Club Presidents should have received their packet for this year’s PAUL HARRIS FELLOW CHALLENGE with MATCHING DONATIONS. There is an important short 8.5-minute computer video for Club display and personalized envelopes with information about each member’s past giving for the Paul Harris Fellow Challenge fundraiser. This year, PDG Geoff and Kim Goll have pledged to MATCH ALL DONATIONS FROM $100-$500 with Foundation Points to HELP ROTARIANS EARN THEIR FIRST OR NEXT PAUL HARRIS FELLOW RECOGNITION. This contest has raised over $100,000 over the past 4 years. Please show the video and encourage giving. All envelopes must be returned to me by December 31st.

Community Service Minutes of October, 2019
Dear Rotarians, R.I. District 6650,

I am sure you all celebrated World polio Day on October 24th. Eradication of Polio from the face of the earth is Rotary’s commitment of last 3 decades. It is not an easy commitment but we have a heart, we have ability and resolve to undertake such monumental task.

America has not seen Polio for several decades and many Rotarians, born after 1950’s have not experienced the curse of this infantile paralysis. American generosity is obvious as we have taken a lion’s share in this commitment in eradicating Polio even if we do not have Polio curse on western hemisphere.. We are still the best dollar contributors and almost 45 to 50 % of our donations to the Rotary Foundation are being used in this effort.

Following is the page from "The Rotarian" of November 2019 issue.  It speaks volume!

45% of total donations of $ 335 million were used towards Polio eradication. ($ 151 millions)
25.9% on Global Grants, and                                                           7.7% on District Grants.
It shows that a large chuck is still being spent on Polio eradication.

We have to succeed.
