Happy Holidays! Wow, did you ever think we would get to the end of 2020? I will admit that we lost quite a bit during 2020. Many of us lost regular meetings and the fellowship that is Rotary. We lost All Ohio Pets, District Conference, the International Convention, and the Awards Banquet. Rotary clubs have lost cherished traditions like pancake breakfasts, golf outings, and Oktoberfests that mean so much to their communities. We have struggled to raise funds that are so important to the communities that have come to depend on us for help. Rotarians who were active and productive have lost jobs and businesses or had to change work hours. We are separated from our friends and families. To add to the pain we had devastating fires in the West, monthly hurricanes in the South, and, yes, murder hornets who threaten our honey bees and our food supply. Our nation, and especially our health care system, is exhausted.
It has been a challenging year, but it has also been a learning experience. What is really impressive is that Rotary has answered the call. In every town Rotarians continue to find ways to help. We have learned that we can meet in new ways, outdoors and on Zoom. We have developed new ways of fund raising. We have learned to connect and remain socially distanced. We have volunteered in food banks, and other relief efforts.
This Holiday Season we are facing a winter when the pandemic will be even worse than last spring. Most things are cancelled and families are not able to be together. It is up to us to decide how we will handle the reality of a holiday during a pandemic. As always, Rotarians will find a way to celebrate safely. Remember that the hope of a vaccine is on the horizon in 2021.
My holiday wish is for peace; the peace of understanding among people, the peace of knowing we are safe and secure, and the peace of mind that comes from caring for mankind.

New - Double Your Donation
Rotary Foundation:
All Rotarians in the District should have received a special envelope in mid-November by postal mail with information about our PHF Challenge and new Double Your Donation contests. Please review the letter and consider donating to The Rotary Foundation to do “Good in the World” and your local community. Feel free to email questions to me.
Paul Harris Fellow Challenge
For each $20 donated to The Rotary Foundation, you have a chance to win the prestigious Paul Harris Fellow Recognition for you, your spouse, or a friend. The more you donate, the more chances to win.
Double Your Donation
Donate $100 or more and gift your matching Foundation Points to a fellow Rotarian. You both receive the donor credit toward your first or next Paul Harris Fellow recognition level.
Consider working as a group to honor a special Rotarian. You will also be entered multiple times into the PHF Challenge for each $20 donated.
You must return the letter that I sent to you to participate in the contest by January 1, 2021. Can’t find the letter? Email me at Peter@salemrad.com, and I will send you a copy by email.

Register Now to attend the 2021 Rotary International Convention
Hello Fellow Rotarians!
There is still time to make your reservation for the Rotary International Convention in June 2021. I know that it is difficult to think ahead to a time outside of the pandemic when you may be able to travel again. Hopefully, though, you will find yourself on a plane headed for Taipei in June!!
This month's Rotarian magazine has a great article about Taipei so make sure you check it out!
December 15 marks the last day to receive your pre-registration discount. Make sure you sign up by then to receive the most money off your registration fee. Hotels also fill up fast, so you need to put your registration in there quickly.
Finally, District 6650 is the ONLY district in Zone 30 that does not have a single reservation for the upcoming convention. I hope that at least a few of you can sign up before the deadline on December 15.
It is with a heavy heart, but a sense of reality, that I am officially announcing that RYLA 2021 will NOT be able to be held this Rotary year. It would be impossible to recreate the kind of leadership experience we want given the restrictions of the pandemic.
I am happy to report, though, that we have secured dates for the following year at the Grand Resort (formerly the Avalon Inn):
RYLA 2022 will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday, February 25, 26, 27, 2022
Thank you for your past support. I look forward to working with you all again in the future!
