From the very start of our Journey together this year I have emphasized that there is nothing more important than each one of you. We must prioritize our life along the lines of our religion, our family, our occupations, and then Rotary. Almost everything in our lives has been impacted by the COVID 19 virus. It might appear that even Rotary has shut down. Yes, we have canceled many events and service projects and most physical meetings. This pandemic moved so fast that we only had time to react instead of plan.
As leaders, I am so proud of how you remained calm and acted so responsibly. We are not down and out, we are still communicating, exchanging ideas and taking action. Think of all the Past District Governors in our District, all the current and past Assistant District Governors, current and past Presidents and your District’s current leadership team. You are all Ambassadors for the Rotarians in D6650. I am asking each of you and each Rotarian to set up a contact program in each of your Clubs. Remember Rotary Connects the World? Whenever hard times come, Rotarians unite, take action and extend kindness. I know we will have Rotarians who have lost their jobs and as a result may feel they have to drop out of Rotary. Now is the time to take care of our family. Possibly collect funds to help our fellow Rotarians. By staying in contact, we will know who needs our help. How rewarding it is to help someone in our own Rotary family.
April is Maternal and Child Health month. This is one of our areas of focus. Our goal is to save Mothers and Children. We provide education, immunizations, birth kits and mobile health clinics. Approximately 5.9 million children under the age of 5 die each year due to malnutrition poor sanitation and health care. When we think about the struggles, we are having with this pandemic with good health care, you can only imagine the outcome in underdeveloped regions.
Please connect virtually, using email, using your phone, using cards or any handwritten note, using your computer, using Tweeter, using Facebook or using Linked-in. PLEASE just stay in touch with those you care about.
Be safe and stay at home as much as possible,
Dan
Upcoming Events
District Rotarians, this is your chance to let everyone know about your upcoming events/projects. Please submit your information to Lauri at: info@cantonrotary.org or 330-452-2882.
This calendar is there for you. It is easy to add your event.
If you have administrative access to your website, please follow these directions. If you do not have administrative access, contact Lauri at info@cantonrotary.org or at 330-452-2882.
Some clubs have raised concerns about spending this year’s Local Grant funds by June 30 and the due dates of next year’s request for funds (May 15) and this year’s final reports (June 15).
At this challenging time, our District will be as flexible as The Rotary Foundation allows us to be.
If you do not believe your Local Grant project can be completed by June 30, 2020, please chose another worthwhile project perhaps related to supporting your community in its current healthcare challenge. Contact a local non-profit organization to see if your funds can be used to make a difference. On your final report note the change and list the organization that benefited.
If you have already completed this year’s project by June 15, please try to fill-out the one-page Final Report. It requires minimal information. http://www.rotary6650.org/FinalReport.pdf
If you are concerned about choosing next year’s project by May 15, consider supporting a similar project with similar funding (see other club’s projects below for other suggestions). We can make changes as things stabilize. http://www.rotary6650.org/application.pdf
Stay healthy. Know that we healthcare workers are doing our best to help in our communities.
Please feel free to email or call me with questions/concerns.
*2020 Rotary International Convention canceled because of growing coronavirus concerns
We regret to announce that the Rotary International Convention, scheduled for 6-10 June 2020, in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, has been canceled in response to the ongoing threat of COVID-19, the illness caused by the novel coronavirus.
We are sorry that we will not see you in Honolulu this year, but this decision is necessary to protect the health of everyone involved.
At this time, we kindly ask that you do not contact RI Registration to inquire about your registration, ticket or housing cancellations as we work diligently to inform all attendees.
In the near term, Rotary International recommends that districts and Rotary and Rotaract clubs meet virtually, cancel or postpone meetings or events following the advice of national and local health officials. Please continue to follow the guidelines set by the World Health Organization and your national, regional, or local health authorities to protect your health and safety. If feasible, conduct meetings online or by phone.

District 6650 Conference
D6650 Rotarians!
I am sure this message will come as no surprise. I have stressed over and over that there is nothing more important in Rotary than you or your family. Our Conference Committee has come to the conclusion, that it is imperative that we cancel this year's District Conference. Many of you have worked hard on this Conference and know each of the members of D6650 appreciate you. Our Conference Co-Chairs Greg Brokaw and Rich Tirpak will lead us in closing all the aspects of this Conference. Our Partner, Kent State has been notified of the impossibility of our being able to move forward with the event. I am so proud of the committee. They had a very good program planned for you!
Even though many of us are not meeting for a short period of time, we are still a strong family.
Blessings, Dan Morgan DG 6650 2019/20
