DISTRICT GOVERNOR ELAYNE BOZICK

MONTHLY LETTER - March 2025

“The Magic of Rotary” theme-of-the-year was inspired by a child’s-eye-view of something many of us take for granted: Clean. Potable. Water. At the turn of a tap.

That little boy that RIP Stephanie Urchick tells us about is right. Clean water IS magic because of its life-changing effects. As Benjamin Franklin said, “When the well is dry, we know the worth of water.”

We may be fortunate to have always lived where water is “safe”, conditions are sanitary, and hygiene education is part of our daily lives, but that is not the case for millions around the world.

When people have access to clean water and sanitation, waterborne diseases decrease, children stay healthier, they attend school more regularly, while their mothers can spend less time transporting water and more time productively caring for their families. As Rotarians, until we can guarantee these essentials to everyone, we still have work to do.

This month we recognize and celebrate the magical gifts of Clean Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Education and the differences they have made and can yet make to so many lives.

Earlier in the year I challenged each Rotarian in District 6650 to increase their annual giving to The Rotary Foundation by at least $66.50. If you haven’t yet made your Every Rotarian Every Year (EREY) donation, today – right now - would be a good time to do so.

We are currently collecting stories in interview format for the launch of District 6650’s mini podcast feature on the website. Contact us to schedule yours!

RYLA - Rotary Club of Malvern

Malvern High School Juniors Shine at RYLA Leadership Conference

Malvern, OH – Congratulations to Malvern High School juniors David Krutilek, Jacob McClelland, and Zoe Sikorsky on their selection and participation in the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) Conference! The event took place from Friday, February 7th to Sunday, February 9th, at the Marriott in Canfield, Ohio, bringing together young leaders from across the state.

RYLA is an intensive leadership development experience organized by Rotary clubs and districts. Participants engage in interactive workshops, team-building activities, and leadership exercises designed to enhance their communication, collaboration, and decision-making skills. The Malvern Rotary generously provided funding to cover all costs associated with the conference, ensuring that these outstanding students could take full advantage of this transformative opportunity.

Reflecting on her experience, Zoe Sikorsky expressed her gratitude, saying, “I am so fortunate to be given the opportunity to attend the RYLA leadership conference. I am so thankful for the local Rotary Club for sponsoring me! I learned important leadership skills during this conference, like working with others and communicating.”

David Krutilek also spoke highly of the event, stating, “The program was very positive and interactive. We were engaged the entire time in great events and activities.”

Jacob McClelland echoed their enthusiasm, adding, “I had a great time at RYLA and learned a lot about leadership skills and communication.”

The Malvern community is proud of these students for representing their school with excellence and looks forward to seeing how they apply their newly honed leadership skills in the future.

Sadly, Larry Walton, a longtime member of the East Liverpool Rotary   Club passed away at the end of January. He had been a Rotarian for over 50     years. He had also been a longtime board member of the East Liverpool City   Schools.

In honor of Larry’s memory our club made a donation to the East Liverpool High School Band. The band is currently seeking donations to go toward the purchase of new uniforms for the 2025/2026 season. The band will be celebrating their 100th anniversary in October.
A check was presented to several Band Members. Pictured o the far left is President Elect, Tyler Barnhouse and President, Laura Reed on the right.
